“Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and acts on them, i will show you whom he is like: he is like a man building a house, who digs deep and laid a foundation on rock and when a flood occured, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built” Luke 6:47-48
While reading that this morning, I was reminded of how vital it is to build our lives on God’s foundation. Through reading His word we gain knowledge and it is through acting upon what we learn to gain understanding of how to not only emerse ourselves in His truths but to live them out. In doing so we are grounding ourselves, we are building an unshakeable foundation, that when we are faced with trials and hardships we will not crumble but remain firm in the truths we not only read but believe.
Just as in
Jeremiah 17:8 “He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
We must not live turning a blind eye to the problems that we will face but we must live knowing they will come. Just as Jesus faced temptation, trials and rejection, as we follow in His footsteps we too will go through the same. By building a strong foundation in our faith, even through the little challenges we face, it is strengthening us for times when we will have to stand in our faith. By having a foundation in the Lord we no longer need to run from problems by face them and move past them. When we can freely talk about our pain and sufferings we rob the enemy of the power he tries to have on us through telling us we are unworthy of Jesus’ love, that we are sinners. By rooting ourselves in Gods promises
“therefore since we have these promises dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates the body and spirit, perfecting holiness of out reverance for God” 2 Corinthians 7:1
and truths, we will be able to discern lies from the devil and be set free in Gods truth
“know the truth and the truth will set you free” John 8:32
May you not only read his word but live by it, may you be faithful to the one who has always been faithful to you. It is never to late to rebuild your foundation, to root yourself in the love of Jesus and realize how strong you can be through Him.
