In the dark

04a56eaa0faf3c323af94ccdf1b5cc57It’s easy to be content, happy and joyful when things seem to be going right.

It’s easy to love the Lord when you feel blessed, when you sense His presence or when life is going good.

It’s in times of hardship, persecution, rejection and trials where you begin to back up and nervously reafirming, “You wouldn’t let me go through this, not a chance…right God?…right?”

So often when we are in the midst of hardhips, we lose sight of what God has shown us in the light. We quickly forget about His promises and truths, we cling to the bit of strength we ourselves have left and run back for cover under false security-in our friends, families, old ways. It almost seems like when the power goes out, instead of running for light, we hide under the covers, hoping..waiting for the lights to come back on, rather than lighting the candle that’s already there.

We have this sense of self righteousness that God wouldn’t give us more than we can handle, that He wouldn’t give us lemons in life or that we would ever have to do something that isn’t comfortable…when in fact, it’s through the very moments of darkness that if we seek Him, He shines the brightest. It is through the times of trials and pain, that we are able to see how good He truly is. It is in those moments where we could take the easy way out, He is reaching out His hand asking us to keep reaching out for Him, for

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness…Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will recieve the crown of life, which God has promised to those ho love Him.”
James 1:2-3,12

For in His word, Jesus told us,

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have tribulation, but take heart, I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33

Today, no matter what you may be facing; take comfort in the fact that Jesus has gone before you and won victory. Although that does not mean you won’t face trials and hardships, it means He has already won the power you are letting it have over you. For now we can rejoice in the face of troubles, because we have He who will lead us through them.

When you find the power goes out, don’t forget the promises and vision the Lord has shown you in the light. Don’t drop all that the Lord has given you and run. Remain a steward of all He has entrusted to you, even if it is hard. For it is easy to seek the easy way out when things don’t seem to be going as we planned, as we hoped they would be. When we come to a place where we feel we are lacking the very things we “need” such as friends, community, money, etc. Instead of pointing fingers at God or trying to reafirm yourself that God would never let this happen…remember tho Stand firm in His truths, in His promises and let Him lead you through the power of the Holy Spirit, so that your faith may be strengthened. For it is so easy to let emotions and fears well up inside of us, rather than being led by His truth through faith.

For right where you are, begin to call on the name of the Lord and rejoice in the fact that He is King and He will fight for you. Do not try to speak to yourself, let Him whisper to your heart. Get to a place where you can silently come before Him and listen to His pure words, rather than your own. For the devil will try to do anything he can to distract you from fulfilling the Lord’s will and plans. Remain looking to the face of the Lord, submitting, surrendering and listening to Him.

For sometimes although it may not look like you want it to be, it may be exactly as the Lord desires it to be. I pray that you will find comfort in He who is with you and He will strengthen your spirit within Him and remind you of His truth, in Jesus name through the power of the Holy Spirit.

“I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my hole being rejoices, my flesh also dwells secure, For you ill not abandon my sol to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.”
Psalm 16:8-10
