We often forget that things take time.
Some of the most beautiful things, take years to develop, to grow and to flourish.
However in our day of age, we want everything now. There really is no time to wait, we want things to be fast so we can keep up with our busy lives.
We have microwaves to heat our food faster, cars that drive faster, even internet and computers that work..well..faster.
Even with jobs, we want to be successful right away. We roll our eyes at things we know will take time and want everything to be handed to us right now, this moment.
Take a breathe.
The most beautiful things are not handed to us, they are developed, grown and take our time and energy.
Just like a race horse, they are not born and then thrown onto the track. They endure a process of training to get to a level where they can run, even then, winning takes effort, not just on the horses part but everyone involved.
To be an athlete takes a lot of time, energy, and effort.
To have a steadfast relationship, takes time to cultivate and grow.
Also knowing the Lord takes more than a three minute prayer once a week.
The most beautiful things we see in other people that we want, we think will be given to us if we just ask God for it. We truly think it will take no time at all, but stop for a minute and realize, everything others have succeed in, is because they have dedicated their time to that moment, to that dream, to that goal and have passionately worked hard to achieve it. It was not simply over night, but nights, days, years of hard work and dedication. Not willing to give up when things get tough but to keep working towards their purpose. They probably did not try to do it all, but focused on that one thing. What will you focus on? What will you put your heart into for this season of your life?
An oak tree takes ten years to grow, a squash takes 2 1/2 weeks.
What would you rather be?
An oak tree grows its roots deep and is unshakable when things come its way. It is deeply secure in good soil and continues to grow. A squash however is quickly uprooted and does not have much to secure itself in.
Allow the process to happen and enjoy the process. Allow yourself to be deeply rooted in the Lord and who you are in Him, so that you may know the joy of perseverance which builds character and a life not grounded just in earthly things that we can gather but instead taking time to enjoy everything else that takes time. For it is through the process that we learn, grow and our character is developed. It is through the very things we dread doing that we learn the most. Our lives are all a process and it’s what we sow through the process that will cultivate what our lives will produce.
We must not become lazy and try to cut corners, for it leaves us with nothing but a sense of self-entitlement. When we work hard for something, put in time and effort, it is worth keeping and we feel empowered and joyful that we endured everything to reach our goals. We become lazy when we would rather take pills to lose weight in three days, then work hard and become stronger in three months, which will leave us with a lifestyle rather than a quick fix.
Everything is beautiful in its own time. Everything has seasons and takes our effort. Be disciplined and spend time with the Lord to see what is worth your time.
What is your purpose in life? What is your dream?
Now what do you need to do to reach that dream and purpose?
Ask the Lord to reveal the things in your life that are wasting your time that you could be spending on your purpose and dreams. Not that those things are bad, but we cannot do everything people expect from us, better yet, we can’t do everything we expect ourselves to do.
Focus on the purpose of your life and strive to do the things that will help you get there and be better at it. Don’t be afraid of going after your dreams, but remember that there is a cost; of time, finances, energy and heart and soul. Go after your purpose and keep your eyes fixed on the prize that the Lord set before you, glorifying Him through the desires that He has placed on your heart. With Him in your life, pursuing your dreams will bring more fulfillment knowing it is building something that will last an eternity rather than a moment of fame. For moments come and go, and they fade away; but living a life with the Lord will build a character that will last forever. The Lord does not care so much of what we do but who we are.
Spend time with the Lord daily, as He will focus your eyes and heart on the things that truly matter.
Enjoy the journey,
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
